SOLOMON Islands will soon have its own trade policy framework which is expected to chart a way forward for the overall trade development in the country.

The document will be first ever for Solomon Islands says Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon Clay Forau.

Hon Forau made this announcement at last week’s first ever National Trade Council Meeting convened in Honiara.

He says such document will provide guidance to our trade negotiators to pursue our national interests in any trade negotiations front.

Hon Clay Forau said that he is pleased that his Ministry has secured funding assistance from Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat to develop the first ever Trade Policy Framework for Solomon Islands.

“It is expected that the work on this Trade Policy document will commence in early September this year (2013) and will complete by March 2014.”

“However let me remind you all that no amount of studies, reports, or documents can improve our trade performance without the commitment and joint effort by every stakeholders in addressing together the issues and challenges we face to develop the supply-side of the real sectors in our economy.” Hon Forau said.
