MERD Undersecretary, Mr. Timothy Ngele during the World Teachers Day
THE under-secretary of the Ministry of Education, Timothy Ngele told teachers that they hold the key for a better future and quality education in the country.
Mr Ngele expressed these during the World Teachers Day celebration on Friday, with the theme “A call for teachers to take the lead in quality education”.
“Teachers hold the keys for a better future, they inspire, challenge and empower innovative and responsible global citizens,” Mr Ngele stated.
He said teachers help to build the inclusive knowledge societies the country needs for the future.
“Evidence shows that teachers, their professional knowledge and skills are most important factor for quality education,” Ngele added.
“Learning is not possible without professional, well trained, well supported, accountable and valued teachers.”
Mr Ngele also revealed that the Ministry has placed policies for on-going professional development support for teachers throughout the country.
“The evidence of this is what I have highlighted earlier with the support from UNESCO,” Mr Ngele added.
He maintained that the Ministry through the Teacher training and Development Division is working closely with SINU School of Education and Humanities to address these issues in the pre-service and TIT training programs.
