GREEN coconuts have a well deserved reputation of providing healthy and nutritional benefits of fresh fluid for the whole body, according to the Commodities Development and Extension Manager Schola Aitora.

Mrs Aitora from the Solomon Islands Copra Exporters Company shared her views during the World Food Day celebrations last week at Art Gallery.

“Coconut water has been a favorite and popular local drink in Solomon Islands and our organisation tends to promote it as something of a healthy nutritional drink,” she said.

“Not only it is considered ‘Mother’s Nature and Water of Life’ but it’s claimed health benefits also include helping lowering your sugar level, blood pressure and even curing your hangover.

“For those using coconut water as replacements for plain water it is fine but as part of this year’s theme ‘Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition’ we are here to promote the green coconuts nutritional value,” said the manger.

Meanwhile, studies have revealed that coconut water has also acquired the reputation for being able to improve blood circulation, slow aging, and fight nutritional disease, boost immunity, and reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and stroke.

“Such studies have suggested that the specific plant chemicals found in coconut water maybe powerful antioxidants, but many antioxidants exists in the nature- there’s no proof that there’s anything ‘magical’ about the ones in coconut water.

“Claims the coconut water can fight cancer, stop aging, boost immunity and perform other feats of health are based on more preliminary studies in test tubes and lab rats,” according to the studies.
